Community Centres for Conflict Affected Communities
CHCA sucesfully opened new Community Centres for Conflict Affected Communities in Georgia in the regions of Kvemo Kartli (Gardabani) and Imereti (Tskaltubo). The official openning ceremonies in attendace of partners from Save the Children and European Commission and representatives of local communities were held in Gardabani on Feb. 11 and in Tskaltubo on Feb. 16.
The project aims to encourage integration among IDPs and local populations, promote socio-economic development and public dialogue, and finally to contribute to the development of local governmental and community capacities.
The project foresees the establishment of Community Centres and Community Development Groups. The IDPs and local residents have opportunity to get together and organise common activities, use computer, attend dance classes, movie nights, prepare children's art exhibitions and other activities promoting local community development and social cohesion.
Newly established Community Development Groups and representatives of local authorities receive different trainings on community mobilisation, capaity building and civil society development. Community Development Groups have also opportunity to receive additional funding in form of small grants for organising future activities within local community.
